Asics Superblast 3: Enhanced Cushioning, Reduced Weight (2026)

Get Ready! The Asics Superblast 3 is poised to redefine running in 2026, promising more cushioning and less weight at a price that might just surprise you!

What started as an unexpected sensation has blossomed into one of the most eagerly awaited running shoe updates for 2026: the Asics Superblast franchise. You might remember the original Superblast from 2022, which quickly became a unicorn, almost impossible to find. Asics then appeased the eager market with minor tweaks and better availability for the Superblast 2, released two years later. Now, anticipation is soaring once again for the Superblast 3, and Asics isn't just making small adjustments – they're delivering a significant overhaul!

But here's where it gets interesting... The Asics Superblast 3, slated for a March launch, is making a major leap by ditching the FlyteFoam Turbo Plus midsole of its predecessor. Instead, it's embracing FF Leap, Asics' most advanced foam technology, which you'll recognize from their elite Metaspeed Sky/Edge Tokyo and Metaspeed Ray super shoes. This cutting-edge foam forms the bulk of the new midsole, artfully layered over a thin base of firmer FF Blast Plus foam. This strategic combination is designed for both exceptional responsiveness and lasting durability.

And this is the part most people miss... Thanks to these material changes and a refined geometry, Asics has engineered a remarkable 15.4 percent increase in energy return compared to the Superblast 2! Even with a slight increase in stack height – now 38.5mm (a 1.5mm boost) – the Superblast 3 manages to be 10 grams lighter, tipping the scales at a mere 239 grams for a men's size 9. This is a notable achievement, especially considering the Superblast 2 actually gained weight from its predecessor.

Paul Lang, Asics' global senior product manager, shared with Footwear News, "As we’ve scaled and [the Superblast] has become a bigger part of our arsenal of footwear, we wanted to take a thoughtful, methodical approach to this big update. Knowing we just had some really big steps forward last spring in the foam on our racing product, we wanted to take that foam and bring that into an everyday trainer."

Further enhancing the ride, the forefoot now features a more pronounced, diamond-shaped bounce pod. This aggressive design aims to create a powerful "piston effect" for an even more propulsive toe-off. While this feature is present in other Asics Blast shoes like the Megablast and Sonicblast, it was implemented more subtly in the Superblast 2.

Moving upwards, the engineered weave upper has been redesigned for a sleeker, more streamlined fit. The lacing system has also been reimagined, moving away from traditional eyelets for most of its length. Instead, you'll find cord loops, except for the top two eyestays, allowing for a more customized and secure lockdown.

Even the launch colorway is a conversation starter! Its vibrant graphic, a swirl of blue, green, yellow, and red, might initially evoke heat maps. However, Asics explains it's inspired by the theoretical concept of a "temporal fold" – the idea of bending spacetime to travel faster than light! A symbolic graphic on the heel, appearing across various iterations, represents the runner's journey from the moment they unbox the shoes to crossing the finish line.

Lang proudly stated, "This is essentially the shoe that created the unplated super trainer. We’ve seen the industry follow in spades ever since. With the expansion of the model and wider points of distribution, we’ve moved past that runner that’s finding us through digital methods, and now there’s a consumer going into their local run shop and finding out what this experience can be like underfoot. So our net continues to be cast wider and wider."

The Asics Superblast 3 is set to launch on March 1st via Asics' official website and select retailers, with a price tag of $200.
