iOS 26 has made Apple Passwords the ultimate password manager, but there's a catch.
When Apple Passwords first debuted in iOS 18, I was impressed by its ability to generate and save logins across my devices. However, I still relied on 1Password for specific tasks due to certain limitations in Apple Passwords.
One major issue was Apple's lack of support for credit cards within the Passwords app. I often needed to access credit card information, and opening 1Password became a necessary step. Additionally, the absence of version history in the Passwords app was a drawback, as I sometimes encountered issues with saved logins being overwritten.
iOS 26 has addressed these concerns, transforming Apple Passwords into a comprehensive solution.
First, the Wallet app now allows manual input of full credit card details, eliminating the need to open 1Password for this information. This feature alone has been a game-changer, providing easy access to credit cards across various apps.
Furthermore, iOS 26 enhances the system-wide AutoFill menu by adding a dedicated Credit Card option. This improvement ensures that accessing credit card details is now seamless and efficient, regardless of the app I'm using.
Lastly, the Passwords app now includes version history for all logins, resolving the issue of overwritten data. This feature provides an additional layer of security and convenience, ensuring that I can always retrieve accurate login information.
Since upgrading to iOS 26, I've completely shifted to Apple Passwords, eliminating the need for 1Password.
